Mei Kong, RN, MSN is currently the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Nursing Officer at NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island. Ms. Kong has over 32 years of clinical and administrative leadership experience in patient care, engagement safety and workforce development. She directed patient and employee safety for NYC Health + Hospitals for 9 years and held the position of Assistant Vice President, System Patient Safety and Employee Safety/Wellness. She has held increasingly substantial roles within NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital, Beth Israel Medical Center, and NYU Medical Center involving patient care and managing regulatory standards. Ms. Kong is a transformational performance-focused leader with expertise in administration, operations, nursing, and education. She holds a Bachelor of Science from Long Island University, an MSN in Nursing Administration from Hunter College, and an Honorary Doctorate of Science from New York College of Health Professions. Ms. Kong is a National Presenter on health care topics, patient safety, leadership and nursing. She is a published author in several peer reviewed journals including Gastroenterology Nursing, Clinical Simulation in Nursing, Urban Medicine and contributed to several other publications, including a chapter on medication error in the book “Patient Safety: A Case-Based Comprehensive Guide”. She was awarded the U.S. Army Dental Command Medal in Recognition and Excellence and Professionalism, U.S. Army Medical Command Medal in Recognition for Excellence and U.S. Army Medical Department Regiment Award.
